This half day course provides delegates with a thorough grounding in ‘unconventional’ risk associated with environmental rather than directly financial considerations, and how these link to activities within organisations and along their supply chains. The course will also cover the management of relationships with suppliers in a risk context and discuss approaches to risk mitigation along supply chains.

The course will consider a range of risk types and stakeholder attitudes and how businesses can reduce exposure or mitigate impact. Although the main focus is environmental risk, the trainer will explain how societal and governance issues interlink with these and with conventional financial risks and how these need to be integrated into an organisation’s risk management processes for them to be effective.

On completion of the course, attendees will:
• Understand the development of risk categories impacting the global economy
• Have an appreciation of the inter-connection of environmental, societal and governance risks and their relationship to financial impacts
• Appreciate citizens’ concerns around the environmental conduct of businesses
• Understand consumer and market drivers in the developing environmental performance of businesses
• Have an overview of policy and regulatory drivers in environmental performance, including the recommendations of the Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosure
• Understand the principles of the circular economy
• Understand the principles of life-cycle assessments
• Understand the principles of materiality assessments
• Leave the course with a set of objectives for improving their procedures for managing risk

Who should attend?
This course is relevant to Business Managers and Directors, Sustainability Managers, Risk Managers, and anyone else who has responsibility for the effective identification and mitigation of risk within organisations.
